GOLF COURSE SUPERINTENDENT | JANUARY 2014 - PRESENT

Responsible for operating budget of $3.2 million and capital improvements of $450K annually

 

Directly responsible for planning, supervision and implementation of all agronomic, cultural and irrigation practices

 

Collaborate with golf course architects, civil engineers, contractors, various town officials and agencies

 

Planned, prepared, presented and implemented a $9.1M dollar golf course renovation, including installation of irrigation system and reconstruction of greens to USGA specifications:
• Contractor interview and selection
• All associated permits required for construction phases
• Greens mix and grass specifications and selection
• Developed and maintained renovation budget
• Pump house construction
• Comfort station construction
• Oversaw a complete redesign of clubhouse plantings

 

Participated as part of the team in construction of $3.5M Golf Learning Center:
• Primary power installation across the golf course into new transformer location
• Reconstruction of adjacent driving range tee, which was sodded to Iron Cutter Bermuda
• Installation of new range mats
• Installation of paver walkway
• Consulted on all associated drainage with the project

 

 

Oversaw installation of new landscaping plan at clubhouse and surrounding areas

 

Established fine fescue “no mow” areas throughout the property to reduce inputs without affecting playability

Implemented a comprehensive tree removal program while protecting architectural integrity

Greenwich Country Club is located 35 miles northwest of NYC. Established in 1892 Greenwich Country Club hosts a Seth Raynor designed golf course, 8 har tru tennis courts, 4 paddle courts, 3 squash courts as well as skeet and trap shooting.

OAK HILL COUNTRY CLUB, ROCHESTER, NY

Oak Hill Country Club is home to two championship golf courses designed by Donald Ross in 1924. The East course is currently ranked # 17 in the country by Golf Digest. Oak Hill is the only golf course in the country to have hosted every men’s major in golf, most recently the 2013 PGA Championship.

Worked with club officials and staff in the planning, supervision and implementation of all agronomic, cultural and irrigation practices.

Active part of the team responsible for exceeding member expectations.

Integral in preparing the yearly operating budget of $2.5M as well as the yearly capital plan of $500K.

Manage all clubhouse grounds and miscellaneous out buildings, 6 har-tru tennis courts, and 2 paddle courts.

Responsible for maintenance of $4M irrigation system that consists of two pump stations and over 6,000 irrigation heads.

Responsible for the recruiting, hiring, training, and management of seasonal staff consisting of 65 employees; managed $3M equipment inventory.

Worked closely with numerous contractors for capital improvements, most notably greens modifications of Holes 5, 6, & 15 of the East course.

Actively participated in the planning and construction of a $3.5M, 30,000 sf maintenance facility.

Worked closely with Chief Championships Officer, Kerry Haigh, and Manager of Golf Courses & Grounds, Jeff Corcoran, in all aspects related to the 2013 PGA Championship.

Coordinated and scheduled 130 individuals for the 2013 PGA Championship; supervised all tournament build-out for the 2013 PGA Championship.

Assisted in development of club communications; website postings, newsletters and on course postings.

Assisted in the establishment of an intern program, consisting of 6 interns annually from throughout the country as well as overseas.

Collaborated with golf course architects, civil engineers and club officials.

Coordinated tree removal selection and process as well as maintenance pruning.

Supervised fall cleanup of 350 acres consisting of 40,000 trees.

Developed progressive snow removal plan to handle high activity at the club during winter months.

SHACKAMAXON GOLF & COUNTRY CLUB, SCOTCH PLAINS, NJ

Shackamaxon Golf & Country Club is an exclusive private country club with an 18-hole Championship golf course designed by A.W. Tillinghast in 1916. The majority of capitol improvement projects are completed in-house.

Manage and schedule a culturally diverse staff of 26 employees.

Responsible for pesticide applications, record keeping, product inventory and yearly state reporting of
pesticide usage.

Implemented a tree renovation program.

Construction of a one-acre bent/poa sod nursery.

Oversaw the installation of internal drainage on several troublesome greens.

Participated in waterway renovation, dredging and stream bank stabilization.

Designed and implemented a comprehensive water management program; Implemented a storm-water management plan.

BERKLEIGH COUNTRY CLUB, KUTZTOWN, PA

2ND ASSISTANT SUPERINTENDENT | AUGUST 2003 - MARCH 2006

Berkleigh Country Club is a mid level country club designed by Robert White. Berkleigh played host to the Wachovia Betsy King Classic for 10 years before sponsorship was lost and the tournament was taken off of the LPGA schedule.

LOOKAWAY GOLF CLUB,  BUCKINGHAM, PA

Lookaway Golf Club is a high-end private golf only club designed by Rees Jones in Bucks County Pennsylvania. Lookaway prides itself on providing pristine playing conditions on a daily basis.

HUNTINGDON VALLEY COUNTRY CLUB, HUNTINGDON VALLEY, PA

Huntingdon Valley Country Club is a 27-hole, Howard C. Toomey/William S. Flynn Championship Golf Course. The club is revered as one of the best condition golf courses in the Philadelphia area and was annually ranked as a Golf Digests top 100 classical golf course during my tenure.
